Tales From The Trail
Fear & Loathing in Squirrel Bait Canyon
Posted by Nathan Delaney on
Sometimes, even a leisurely day of laying out new trial turns into an episode of fear and loathing in the forest. As so goes the tale of Squirrel Bait Canyon.
The prelude goes like this: Cracky and a friend from Lake Tahoe found themselves high atop a ridge of sheer volcanic rim-rock late one Sunday afternoon. Below them was labyrinth of Pinion covered ravines, all draining in the general direction of Illinois. (Illinois Canyon that is, Illinois the state is the opposite direction) In true squirrel fashion, he dropped though a crevasse in the rim-rock and began bashing his way downward. He explained that the going was highly difficult due to countless downed trees and steep canyon walls

The legendary Len Faltyn once said: "I would say that motorcycles are what I use to meet the nicest people I've ever met in my life. Basically, all my friends are somehow linked to a motorcycle." Len pretty much nailed it with this quote. I think for most of us who truly love the sport this statement is very true. I have met many people solely because of dirt bikes that I probably would have never met otherwise. I am willing to bet this is true for you as well? Thus brings the tale of BrookStar, the namesake of the...

One of the best parts about living in Nevada is the sheer vastness of the desert landscape. You can look out across a valley and what appears to be flat prairie, often becomes quite different once you venture into it. This applies to images on Google Earth (GE) as well, what you think you see on your computer screen may be quite different when standing there in person. I've spent enough time studying GE that I have achieved my self-proclaimed PhD in Google World Area Reconnaissance, (Dr. of GWAR) with a minor in imagery interpretation. I can pretty much tell...
Escape From Apocalypse Canyon

It was a perfect day in May, the sun was shining, the birds were chirping and there was a little moisture left in the dirt. It was a epic day for a ride........ The crew consisted of 4 solid riders: Jon, Stephen, Cracky, and myself. We were off by a respectable departure time, and we headed straight for the stash. The stash of course being the trails beyond the whooped out, criss-crossing freeways of the weekend warrior. The lesser known, obscure trails of local lore. Trials that have names like Squirrel Bait Canyon, The Big Nasty, Broken Cock Canyon, Brook's...
Idaho Fallies

It's hot and the dirt is bone dry here in Nevada. The trails are slippery and the dust is suffocating. Currently, laying on the beach at Tahoe sounds more enjoyable than even attempting to ride. This causes me to daydream of epic rides of the past....It's been a couple of years now, but I remember it just like yesterday.......... "Idaho Fallies" (Follies as it were... in October) It all started with a call to Rekluse when Clutch Master Charles said, "You need to come up here and ride with us, fall riding is spectacular." So that got me immediately thinking about the awesomeness of Idaho single-track. I got...
